“Throttling the Nefarious Effort”, 1910

. . . many of the worthy Comrades of the Grand Army of the Republic would be disenfranchised, men who fought valiantly for the salvation of the country, and the blood of whose brothers enrich the soil of many a southern plain, these men are doomed under the impending law to be deprived of their right to vote.
We appeal to you Sir, in the mighty influence of your high office to use your kindly offices in throttling this nefarious effort to deprive a large section of our citizens of one of the most precious rights.

Mrs. J. H. Hayden wrote this letter to President Taft requesting action against enforcement of a disenfranchising (depriving of the right to vote) amendment to the Oklahoma Constitution.
