HUAC proved no match for Women Strike for Peace, a group of middle-class women who protested nuclear war wearing dresses and white gloves. Subpoenaed for questioning about their ties to communism, their members’ testimony succeeded in making the committee members appear ridiculous. Before the HUAC hearing, Women Strike for Peace published this ad.
