Sitting Bull was a Sioux chief and holy man. Government officials ordered his arrest for refusing to stop the Sioux from performing the Ghost Dance after it had been banned. Gunfire erupted between his supporters and the Indian police during his arrest, killing Sitting Bull and several others.
