Man Tries to Save his Freeborn Infant Son 1840

John Magruder filed this freedom suit on behalf of his infant son Charles. He claimed that his freeborn son was being held by two men whom he feared would carry his son to “parts unknown” with the purpose “of selling him into absolute slavery.”
