Backview of Boys’ Queues 1900

During the Qing Dynasty, it was considered treason for Chinese men to fail to wear their hair in a queue (a long, braided ponytail). After the fall of the Qing Dynasty in 1912, the hairstyle was no longer required, and few continued the practice.
