Evan Kemp was a disabled lawyer who served as director of the Disability Rights Center and later as chairman of the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission. He played a role in writing the ADA.
Reverend Harold Wilke was a Church of Christ Minister. Born without arms, he was an early disability rights activist.

President George H.W. Bush is pictured here signing the 1990 Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), a landmark civil rights legislation for the disabled. ADA stipulates equal opportunity for persons with disabilities, including in employment, access to public spaces, and telecommunications.
