“Newsboys and news girl. . . . New York City” 1910

Each day, “newsies” purchased papers from the newspapers. In 1899, New York City’s newsies went on strike over a rise in the price that two newspapers were charging them. The strike was settled when the papers agreed to buy back any unsold papers.
