Northern employers sent labor agents south to recruit African American workers for World War I industries. This letter objects to that practice and claims fewer blacks would be available to harvest southern crops. It also raises the possibility of racial conflict, such as the violence that broke out in East St. Louis, Illinois, in 1917.
